Hacked Off has been remarkably successful in representing the victims of press abuse since the Leveson Inquiry was established. In the face of a powerful and wealthy press lobby, the supporter-driven organisation has unflinchingly stood up for the free and accountable press which we all deserve. For these reasons I am proud to be associated with Hacked Off, and to be a part of our active community of victims and supporters. But we still have a long way to go before Leveson is implemented. The press continue to commit vast sums of money from the pockets of their wealthy owners to fight Parliament’s agreed Royal Charter every step of the way. Hacked Off, on the other hand, is based in a small office and relies on the generosity of supporters, like me and you, to continue to be able to speak up for us.That’s why I’ve promised to double every supporter donation. So each donation will make double the difference in the fight to secure a free and accountable press.
Please give as generously as you can afford and - as I am sure you won't - please have no regard as to my financial welfare.
Best wishes,
PS As I have made clear on many occasions, people like me can afford lawyers to look after our interests. But members of the public with less resources who fall victim to press abuses need Hacked Off to provide support and advise and to do this Hacked Off needs funds.
