Nathan Sparkes

Chief Executive of Hacked Off Nathan Sparkes has been with the campaign for over ten years, advising ordinary people affected by press abuse and advocating for a more accountable press in Parliament.

Chair, Hugh Tomlinson KC

Hugh Tomlinson KC is a prominent British barrister specializing in media, privacy, and human rights law, and is Chair of the Hacked Off Board of Directors. A founding member of Matrix Chambers, he has represented high-profile clients in significant privacy and defamation cases. Tomlinson is also known for his involvement in the Leveson Inquiry into press standards. Beyond the courtroom, he is a prolific writer and editor, contributing to legal journals and the influential "Inforrm" blog. His legal expertise has made him a key figure in shaping UK media law.

Dr Rosa Malley

Dr Rosa Malley is a solicitor who specialises in media and reputation matters. She is experienced in advising and supporting victims of press abuse. She has worked on a breadth of media and crisis management cases involving politicians, celebrities, sportspeople and high profile criminal defendants.

Rosa is experienced in pre and post-publication and broadcast matters as well as online reputation. She has a particular expertise in dealing with harassment by journalists and photographers and the unauthorised publication of photographs of minors.  

Rosa has a background in politics. She worked for a political think-tank and taught British politics at Birkbeck University. She holds a doctorate from the University of Bristol and has done research into the representation of women at Westminster, the Scottish Parliament and the Northern Ireland Assembly.

Rosa also sits on the board of charity, Protection Against Stalking.  

Emma Jones

Emma Jones is a journalist and author. Emma has worked as a magazine editor at Smash Hits magazine as well as working as a columnist and reporter across national newspaper titles including the Sun, The Sunday Mirror and the Mail on Sunday. She is a media broadcast contributor in the UK and France.

Hugh Grant

Hugh Grant is a renowned British actor.

Beyond acting, Grant is an outspoken campaigner against press intrusion, following his own experiences with press harassment, and having met many other victims of press abuse. He continues to balance his acting career with his activism for greater accountability in journalism.

Jacqui Hames

Jacqui is a psychotherapist, journalist, and broadcaster. She has appeared on Good Morning Britain as well as presenting shows for Sky News and LBC. She was a presenter of BBC Crimewatch and is a former police officer.

Jacqui was a victim of press intrusion and gave evidence to the Leveson inquiry.

Mandy Garner

Mandy is an experienced journalist, having worked for over 30 years in a variety of media. She was a senior broadcast journalist at the BBC, features editor at Times Higher Education Supplement and is currently managing editor at WM People as well as continuing to work in higher education. She worked for six years as a researcher at International PEN, campaigning for writers and journalists who were imprisoned, attacked or killed in relation to their writing. Mandy has personal experience of press abuse after her daughter Anisha was killed and the video of her death was posted online the following morning by the Daily Mail.

Professor Paul Wragg

Professor Paul Wragg is Professor of Media Law at the University of Leeds. He is a leading expert on privacy law and press regulation.

He is also a former member of the code committee at Impress and a regular contributor to Inforrm.

Professor Steve Barnett

Professor Steve Barnett is a prominent figure in media and communication studies, specialising in the analysis of media policy and regulation. He serves as a Professor of Communications at the University of Westminster, where his research focuses on the impact of media on democracy and public policy. He has authored several influential publications and frequently contributes to public debates on media ethics and accountability. With decades of experience, he is a recognised expert on the relationship between media and society. His work often critiques the influence of media ownership on journalistic integrity.

Terrence Tehranian

Terrence co-founded and helps run one of Europe’s leading funders of companies driving the Energy Transition and Circular Economy, and previously built a Media and digital economy investment fund.

His first job was as a journalist and he is passionate about pluralism and fairness in, and proper ownership of, the media.
