Clean Up Our Politics

For too long, corruption and wrongdoing has persisted across politics, press and the police.

The public are expected to just accept it.

But there is an official investigation into corruption and collusion between politicians, the press and the police - and it was shut down before it could expose the truth.

That's Leveson Part Two.

It was cancelled by the Conservative Government in 2018, and although Labour promised it in opposition, the Prime Minister has failed to reopen it since Labour were elected in July 2024.

It is critical that this inquiry now goes ahead urgently, to clean up scandal, impropriety and wrongdoing across politicians, public authorities and the media.

Why this matters

A free press should expose wrongdoing and corruption in public life.

Yet for years, powerful figures were protected by silence, access, and cosy relationships between media executives, police and the political class.

Whether it’s the phone hacking scandal, the Hillsborough Disaster or the murder of Daniel Morgan, the same powerful newspapers companies have covered up or engaged in appalling abuses of power for decades.

That’s why this Government must reopen part 2 of the Leveson Inquiry, to get to the truth of corrupt and improper relationships between the press, the police and other powerful institutions at the centre of British public life.
