Hacked Off in partnership with the Oxford Playhouse presents…John Cleese: In Conversation with Kate SmurthwaiteJoin actor, comedian and writer, John Cleese as he talks about his life, work and current medical problems. John Cleese is a founder of modern comedy. Together with the other members of Monty Python he created a surrealist style that continues to influence the comedians of today, whilst his character Basil Fawlty has gone down in history as one of the greatest comic character creations. Since he started using Twitter as a way of avoiding the British Press, John has shared his thoughts on everything from Trump and Banks to Scientism and Cat Recipes. Recently, he has become a passionate advocate for the implementation of the Leveson reforms, so that people unable to afford legal action can get inexpensive correction of Press untruths. He will appear in conversation with award-winning comedian, Kate Smurthwaite. A graduate from Lincoln College, Oxford, Kate has been campaigning with Hacked Off for several years after being misrepresented herself in the media. All proceeds for this evening will be shared between the Oxford Playhouse Trust and Hacked Off, the Campaign for a free and accountable press. For an extra £50 you can join us at an exclusive Post-Show Reception celebrating the work of Oxford Playhouse and Hacked Off.
