Appearing live on Good Morning Britain today, Tulisa spoke powerfully about her journey from a target of press abuse to the leader of a major campaign for media accountability.

She is using her platform to take back control of her story and demand a media system that puts truth and human dignity ahead of billionaire profits.

Following one of the most horrific press stings in newspaper history, carried out by the infamous Mazher Mahmood, known as the 'Fake Sheikh', at the Sun on Sunday, Tulisa described to the programme's hosts how she is using her experience to push for accountability.

More than a decade ago, as a young woman, she was the victim of a £300,000 undercover entrapment sting that nearly sent her to prison. Her trial eventually collapsed, and Mahmood was later jailed for perverting the course of justice.

The experience nearly cost Tulisa everything. She faced years of living with the consequences of a media industry that treats human lives as collateral damage in the pursuit of profit.

Tulisa's story is not simply about celebrity gossip. It is a terrifying demonstration of what can happen when powerful newspaper corporations operate without genuinely independent oversight.

'This isn't only about celebrities. The press goes after ordinary people with no platform, no lawyers and no way to fight back,' she told our supporters at a recent rally.

Speaking on breakfast television this morning, Tulisa made a powerful case that millions of viewers could not ignore: Britain's press is broken, and until we have genuine independent regulation, no one is safe from corporate media abuse.

She explained how she will use the 'Fix the Press' campaign and petition as a bold rallying cry for public-interest journalism, ethical standards and an immediate end to the tabloid lawlessness that devastated her life.

At Hacked Off, we know this model well. The way Tulisa was targeted was designed purely to generate front-page headlines and tear down a young working-class woman at the peak of her career.

The reason this matters is simple: Tulisa's experience is part of the same systemic failure that Hacked Off was founded to confront, including phone hacking, intrusion, harassment of crime victims and the publication of false and misleading information.

Tulisa later discovered that her personal information had also been illegally accessed:

'I discovered I had also been a victim of phone hacking, and that my mother's medical records and my own childhood social services files had been accessed and exposed to people who had no right to them.'

We know that IPSO, the self-regulator controlled by the newspaper industry, is not fit for purpose. Without independent regulation, powerful press barons can continue to act with impunity.

Tulisa's story is far from an isolated incident. It is a symptom of a systemic disease within the British media. Whether it is phone hacking, misleading reporting on matters of public interest, harassing the bereaved or orchestrating criminal stings, newspaper owners have demonstrated time and again that they cannot be trusted to regulate themselves.

As Tulisa rightly pointed out to Good Morning Britain hosts Susanna Reid and Ed Balls, IPSO is funded and controlled by the very newspaper industry it is supposed to police. It has failed to protect the public or hold rogue journalists and publishers properly accountable.

At Hacked Off, we believe Britain needs a press that serves the public interest, abides by basic ethical standards and answers to a genuinely independent regulator.
