Hacked Off campaign statement in response to Daily Mail articles

03/11/2011

The Hacked Off campaign is concerned about what appears to be an attempt by the Daily Mail to intimidate and smear a witness who is due to give evidence both to the Leveson Inquiry and to a parliamentary select committee. We are concerned not just for the individual witness, but for other witnesses who are due to appear or who may come forward in the future. We are contacting the Leveson Inquiry to highlight there is a risk that aggressive and even malicious reporting may deter some witnesses from speaking out and may cause others to alter their testimony, thus depriving the Inquiry of a full range of views and evidence about the state of the press.
